GREEN POWER — A VOLUNTARY PROGRAM
Buy more, save more than before!

It's not a mistake! If you are helping the advancement of renewable energy sources by participating in Empire's Green Power Program, you can increase your percentage and save money. Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association and Empire Electric Association lowered the rate for green power blocks from $0.40 per 100 kWh per month block to $0.09 per 100 kWh per month block. This rate is effective through December 2010 for purchases of renewable energy credits (RECs) .

The reduction in the rate reflects a price decline in the RECs market and the cost of Tri-State's current voluntary renewable portfolio. The RECs purchased for the Voluntary Renewable Program are generated from wind, solar, geothermal, small hydroelectric or biomass resources.

Call Empire Electric at 970-565-4444 or 800-709-3726 to sign up for the Green Power Program. You choose what percentage of your estimated/actual average usage you would like to purchase up to 200%. This amount will be added to your electric bill.

How does this work?

Multiply your average kWhs times the percentage of your choice to find the total kWhs you will be adding. Then use the total kWhs divided by 100 kWh blocks (to find how many kWh blocks you are purchasing) times the green power rate, which is $0.09. Here is an example using 650 kWhs for an average residential home adding 100% green power: 650 kWhs x 100% = 650 kWhs divided by 100 kWh blocks = 6.50 kWh blocks x $0.09 per block (current green power rate) = $0.58

$0.58 will be added to this consumer's monthly electric bill for 650 kWhs of green power to encourage the use of renewable energy.

TIME OF USE RATE

As a consumer, you're accustomed to making moneysaving choices and paying lower prices for goods and services used during off-peak times. A number of industries, such as telecommunications and commercial airlines offer attractive off-peak rates to even out customer demand and prevent system overload. Empire Electric's Time of Use (TOU) rate is based on the same concept. By reducing your electric usage during peak periods, you have the opportunity to lower your annual energy costs-without reducing your overall amount of electricity usage.

ENERGY AUDITS

An energy audit's purpose is to identify places in the home where energy is being wasted and prioritize the projects needed to fix them. The end result is intended to reduce the amount of energy the home needs to operate and keep occupants comfortable. You'll start saving money on your energy bills as soon as you identify and fix energy wasters.
